NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY (NDA)

It is located at Khadakwasla (near Pune) in Maharashtra is a premier Joint Services academy of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force are trained together before they go on to pre-commissioning training to their respective service academies – IMA, AFA or INA. NDA offers only a full-time, residential undergraduate program. Cadets are awarded a Baccalaureate degree (a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science) after 3 years of study. Applicants to the NDA are selected via a written exam conducted by the UPSC, followed by extensive interviews covering mathematics, general aptitude, psychological testing, team skills as well as physical and social skills, along with medical tests. Admission is twice a year with semesters starting in July & January having a strength of about 300-350 in each batch. Candidates appearing for the exam must be bachelors.

Army

The Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun is the officer training Academy of the Indian Army. Cadets from NDA undergo training at IMA for one year prior to being commissioned into the Indian Army.

Air Force

The Air Force Academy (AFA) imparts training to the Flying, Technical and Ground Duty Branches of Indian Air Force. It is located at Dundigal, about 25 km away from Hyderabad. After one year's training, officer cadets are commissioned into various branches of the IAF

Navy

The Indian Naval Academy (NAVAC, also known as INA) is the initial officer training establishment of the Indian Navy, located in Kannur, Kerala. NDA cadets opting to join the Navy complete two years of joint training at NDA with the Army and Air Force cadets. They then transfer to INA for the next two years. Cadets have the option to major in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture and are awarded a B. Tech degree upon graduation. Cadets are commissioned as Sub Lieutenants in the Navy.

LEAD Trust offers Residential coaching in April-May 2012 to give NDA entrance exam in Aug 2012 or April 2013

LEAD has arranged a 40 day residential coaching class with a partner institute – Anees Coaching Classes - in Pune during the month of April 2012 for students interested in taking NDA 2012 (Exam on 19-Aug-2012, last date to apply 4-Jun-2012). The cost of the coaching programme is Rs 12,000 and boarding/ lodging cost is Rs 5,000. Students will be eligible for scholarships from LEAD based on economic conditions, academic performance and strong motivation to enter the armed forces. Successful students shall be selected for NDA for the 2013 batches.
